Durham -- On Saturday, Nov. 19, at 2 p.m., Duke
Homestead State Historic Site will host a lecture on the practice of slave
leasing in the south as part of the Civil War 150 programming series. Professor
Heather Williams of UNC-Chapel Hill will shed some light on this often
misunderstood and under recognized part of the institution of slavery. This
event is free.
Williams
holds undergraduate and law degrees from Harvard University and is currently Associate Professor
of History at UNC- Chapel Hill
where she teaches several courses including U.S. History to the Civil War;
African American Life and Culture in Slavery; and other courses relating to the
antebellum and Civil War periods.
