State Historic Sites and Museums Seek Volunteers for Park Day Saturday, April 5

RALEIGH, N.C. -- As our nation commemorates the sesquicentennial (150th anniversary) of the Civil War, volunteers across the country will once again answer their nation's call to service. North Carolina State Historic Sites Bentonville Battlefield, Fort Fisher, Brunswick Town/Fort Anderson and Bennett Place, and the N.C. Maritime Museum at Southport, will participate in the April 5 national Park Day program. History buffs, community leaders and preservationists will team up with the Civil War Trust, History™ and Take Pride in America at more than 98 historic sites across the country to participate in the 18th annual Park Day.

Volunteers at Bentonville Battlefield will help clean brush, bushes and vines from the re-enactor camp areas that will be used during Bentonville's 150th anniversary battle re-enactment. Volunteers at Fort Fisher, Brunswick Town/Fort Anderson and Bennett Place also will help with clean up of trails, landscaping and other projects in preparation for the Civil War 150 commemoration. Volunteers at the N.C. Maritime Museum at Southport will help clean out shrub beds, paint the Museum doors and trim and spruce up the Fort Johnston fortification.

Park Day refreshments will be provided to volunteers at all the sites, and volunteers will receive a Park Day T-shirt. Volunteers should call ahead to register.
