For the past few days, I've been working on an intense
survey of the gravesites of Confederate and Union soldiers buried in the Toe
River Valley (Avery, Mitchell and Yancey Counties). This stone has me
perplexed. It reads:
Frank Keener
Co. K, 152 Ohio NC Inf.
Keener is buried in the Heaton Cemetery in Avery County.
Thoughts?
It's supposed to be "152nd Ohio NG." This was a 100-day regiment composed of Ohio National Guard soldiers.
